THE BENEFITS OF YOGA

We’ve all heard of yoga, but you might have decided it’s not for you. Whether that’s because you don’t understand it, or you feel you’re not flexible enough, it’s important to not ignore everything yoga can do for you! Today we’ll be talking about the benefits of yoga and how incorporating it into your workout schedule can improve your life.

PHYSICAL

Regardless of how flexible you may be right now, if you start practicing yoga, your flexibility will increase. It will help your body have a better range of motion and keep your muscles loose. Not only will you be more flexible, but yoga can help increase blood circulation, help you tone and strengthen your muscles, and improve your capabilities in other physical activities.

It also allows you to have a better connection between your body and mind! Yoga helps you slow down and really pay attention to your breathing and what your body is feeling. This can help you be more aware of what your body needs and how you hold stress. It’s important to listen to your body, and yoga can help you hear what it’s saying!

MENTAL

With how busy we all are, it’s likely that we don’t take much time to slow down and just breathe. Our minds and bodies are carrying stress, responsibilities, and a lot of burnout. By practicing slow and rhythmic physical exercises, such as yoga, it allows us to get into a more relaxed headspace.

Yoga has been proven to relieve stress and anxiety, especially when used alongside meditation. Taking the time to check in with our body (mind-body connection!) and regulate our breathing, will give us the chance to take a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives.

TIPS

Feeling overwhelmed? Take it one step at a time! Here are some tips for incorporating yoga into your daily routine:

  • Take a class if you can, or follow alongside a video. Make sure to listen to their instructions in order to avoid injury and fully enjoy the benefits.
  • When doing yoga at home, try and do it in an area full of natural light! There’s nothing like doing the Sun Salutation in a bright area.
  • Don’t compare yourself to others! We all have to start somewhere. Regardless of where you are at, you will still benefit from yoga. And eventually, you might even be able to put your leg behind your head!
  • Do your best to practice yoga with a clear head. Meditate before, play soft music, or even listen to rainstorms. Anything you can do to ease your busy mind will help yoga be even more beneficial to you.
